Stopcock & Sure Stop Valve Installation Norwich.
We replace traditional internal stopcocks, fit full-bore isolation valves where appropriate, and install Surestop remote-switch systems for easier mains-water isolation. A Surestop can place the control in an accessible position instead of leaving the only shut-off valve at the back of a cupboard or beneath a sink.
Why traditional stopcocks become difficult
A traditional spindle stopcock may sit untouched for years. Scale, a worn washer, spindle corrosion, or limited access can make it difficult to close when water needs to be isolated. We test the existing valve without forcing it and explain whether servicing or replacement is sensible.
How a Surestop remote switch works
The Surestop valve is installed in the cold mains supply and connected by twin-bore tubing to a separate switch. Moving the switch uses the water pressure in the system to operate the valve, so the remote control needs no electrical supply or batteries.
Remote switch positioning
The standard remote-switch models include 2 metres of tubing, allowing the switch to be positioned somewhere easier to see and reach than the existing valve. The manufacturer recommends no more than 4 metres of connection tubing when an approved extension or upgrade kit is used.
Available pipe and fitting options
Official Surestop remote-switch models are available for 15mm and 22mm pipe, with push-fit and compression variants. We identify the existing pipe material, size, available pressure, and installation space before selecting the model.
Cold mains suitability
The manufacturer lists the product as WRAS approved for cold mains potable supplies, with an operating range of 0.5 to 10 bar at 23°C. We check the property and installation arrangement rather than assuming every supply is suitable.
Conventional valves remain an option
A Surestop is not necessary for every property. Where the main stopcock is accessible and easy to operate, a correctly selected conventional replacement or full-bore isolation valve may be the simpler choice.
Real Hadleigh stopcock replacement
A commercial pipe-freezing kit was used to isolate the black polyethylene incoming supply where no external stopcock was available. See the Hadleigh job photos and video on our work page.
Where is my stopcock?
Usually under the kitchen sink, in a ground-floor cupboard, or where the supply pipe enters from outside. Some properties have them in a utility room or under the stairs. We'll find it.
What is a Sure Stop valve?
Surestop is a water-pressure-operated stopcock system. The remote-switch model connects the valve to an accessible on/off switch using twin-bore tubing, making the mains supply easier to isolate.
Does a Surestop need electricity or batteries?
No. The manufacturer states that the valve is operated by water pressure. The switch is a hydraulic control rather than an electrical switch.
Can the Surestop switch be fitted away from the valve?
Yes. Remote-switch models include 2 metres of tubing. The final switch position depends on the available route, access, and the manufacturer's installation limits.
Will a Surestop fit every home?
Not automatically. The cold mains pipe size, material, water pressure, access, and existing isolation arrangement must be checked. Surestop lists 15mm and 22mm push-fit and compression variants.
How much does installation cost?
The installed price depends on access, pipework, the selected Surestop model, and whether the existing supply can be isolated normally. We inspect the arrangement and agree a price before work begins.
